Changes in Blood Pressure with Postures in Pregnant Women

Abstract
|
|
|
An observation of the changes in blood pressure in accordance with supine and left lateral postures was made in 100 women in later half ofpergnancy, and obtained the following results.
1. Systolic blood pressure showed lowering tendency in supine compared to left lateral postures. Cases of lowering 30 mmHg or more were 12(12%) and those of 20 inmHg or more were 27(27%).
2. Diastolic blood pressure showed same tendency with systolic but the degree was less.
3. Lowering tendency of systolic blood pressure in supine compared to left lateral posture was more markedly noted in cases of longer gestational periods, fetal engagement, shorter and lighter women, and complicated with toxemia of pregnancy.
